St. John's University is a private institution that was founded in 1870. St. John's University is a Roman Catholic, coeducational university located in New York City, United States founded by the Congregation of the Mission. The school is named after Saint John the Baptist. In 2011, St. John's was ranked as a Tier One university by U.S. World News' college rankings. This introduction to the city allows students to examine New York through a variety of academic disciplines. New York City's leading Catholic university, St. John's prepares students to excel as informed, ethical leaders in today's international marketplace.

Location & Facilities

The St. John's University is located in New York City, in the borough of Queens, but also has New York campuses in Staten Island and Manhattan. St. John's University has a variety of graduate programs, including a School of Law and School of Education. Along with campuses in the New York metro area, the school also has a campus in Rome, a location in Paris and a graduate center in Oakdale, New York. St. John's offers semesterlong study abroad programs in Europe, including trips to Rome, Paris and Seville, Spain.

Students come from 48 states and 114 countries to pursue more than 100 programs in the arts, the sciences, business, education, pharmacy and the health sciences. Along with our three residential New York City campuses - in Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan -there is a location in Oakdale, NY, and a campus in Rome, Italy, as well as a study abroad location in Paris, France. The Staten Island campus offers the only accelerated, three-year bachelor's degree program in New York City. All new St. John's students get to have class in historic locations such as Central Park, Ellis Island and Wall Street through Discover New York, a freshman course.
