Overview

Founded in 1869, SIU is the flagship campus of the Southern Illinois University system. (The other members are Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.) The university is known as SIU Carbondale, but colloquially as SIU. The Princeton Review named SIU in its 2012 list of "Best of the Midwest" colleges. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching recognizes Southern Illinois University, Carbondale as an elite institution of higher education, based on breadth of research and academic programs. Location & Facilities

Southern Illinois University is a public research university located in Carbondale, Illinois, United States. its setting is rural, and the campus size is 1,136 acres. Southern Illinois University--Carbondale offers a number of student services including nonremedial tutoring, women's center, placement service, day care, health service, and health insurance.
