Overview

Wright State University is a public institution founded in 1964. Named after the Wright brothers, it has built a strong reputation as an urban research university seeped in a culture of innovation. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has designated Wright State a research university with high research activity that ranks fourth among Ohio's public universities in federal research expenditures. Wright State is also a national leader in serving students with disabilities. Its strong links to business and community organizations offer unique educational opportunities to a diverse student body of nearly 20,000. The Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine is affiliated with seven major teaching hospitals and more than 20 other health-care Institutions. Wright State's 630 international students represent 65 different countries. For 34 consecutive years, Wright State has brought home top honors from the annual National Model United Nations conference, a record unmatched by any other four-year college or university in the country. Wright State was named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll (for the past three years), the highest federal recognition a university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

Location & Facilities

Wright State University is located in Fairborn, Ohio; a suburb of Dayton. However, it has a Dayton address. Wright State has a compact campus, with several academic buildings constructed following Allyn Hall. Key buildings on campus include the Founders' Quadrangle (quad) buildings, which are Allyn Hall, Millett, Fawcett Hall, and Oelman Hall. Over the years, Wright State has provided additional resources to accommodate the traditional, residential student. Hamilton Hall, a traditional dormitory-style residence hall that houses up to 322 students, was built in 1970 and remained for a time the sole residence hall for the university. However, in 1980, the first phase of a multicomplex housing community opened, marking the university's new focus on attracting residential students. Today, university housing also includes apartments and housing geared for nontraditional and older students as well as for families.
