Overview

Southern New Hampshire University was founded in 1932 by H.A.B. Shapiro as the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Secretarial Science. The school remained relatively small until 1961, when it was incorporated and renamed New Hampshire College of Accounting and Commerce. The state of New Hampshire in 1963 granted the university its charter, which gave it degree-granting authority. The first associate degree was awarded that year, and the first bachelor’s degrees were conferred three years later.
The college became a nonprofit institution under a board of trustees in September 1968, and the name was shortened to New Hampshire College in 1969. The university is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and also has specialized accreditation for its schools and programs. The prevailing conventional wisdom at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) has always been that there are no limits to what students can achieve. As an institution, there are seemingly no limits to what SNHU can achieve as well.
SNHU was named the 12th most innovative company in the world by Fast Company, trailing huge global brands like Apple, Facebook and HBO, but ranking ahead of industry giants like the NFL, Starbucks and LinkedIn. SNHU was the only educational institution on the list, an impressive achievement for a university that is committed to consistently reinventing the way that education is delivered and received.

Location & Facilities

SNHU’s 300-acre main campus sits on the banks of the Merrimack River in Manchester, New Hampshire, one of the fastest-growing cities in New England. It’s a peaceful place where you’ll feel safe and welcome. SNHU is the first carbon-neutral school in New Hampshire. The wireless campus features a new academic center, a new dining hall, new dorms and apartment buildings, a simulated stock trading room, multimedia classrooms, an auditorium, the museum-quality McIninch Art Gallery, virtual science labs, technology-ready buildings, a library with resources that can be accessed via the Internet, a fitness center that rivals "members-only" gyms, athletic fields, cooking labs, a bakery, and an award-winning, student-run restaurant.
Students can participate in one of the University's more than 50 student clubs or start new ones. Academic programs are created with the real world in mind, so students are prepared to launch successful careers when they graduate. Classes are taught by highly credentialed faculty who have professional experience and remain current in their fields.
