Overview

Gannon University is a private, Catholic, Diocesan institution founded in 1925. Inspired by the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, it offers a comprehensive, values-centered learning experience that emphasizes faith, leadership, inclusiveness and social responsibility. Students are empowered to become leaders in their professions, churches and communities through challenging academics, a wide range of campus organizations, and personal attention for each student.
As an urban university, located on the shores of Lake Erie in the heart of downtown Erie, Pennsylvania, Gannon is uniquely positioned to use the power of its campus' academic, research, and service resources to enhance the surrounding community and seek solutions to urban problems in the physical, social, intellectual, economic and environmental realms. For the sixth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges 2010" has ranked Gannon as a Top Tier Master's University in the northern section of the United States. And, for the first time, Gannon was also ranked as a Top Up-and-Coming School. This is only the second year for this category, which is determined by a peer assessment survey of high-ranking college officials, and recognizes institutions "that have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus or facilities." Only nine institutions in the northern region were selected for this category.

Location & Facilities

Gannon is located on the bay front in Erie, Pennsylvania's fourth largest city and one of the busiest ports on the Great Lakes. Gannon’s urban campus, in the middle of downtown Erie, is within a two hour drive of Cleveland, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh. Students have abundant opportunities for internships and co-op jobs with government agencies, local businesses and hospitals. Nearby, Presque Isle State Park includes seven miles of beaches, lagoons, hiking trails and biking paths. Presque Isle Bay is located six blocks from campus.
Gannon's unique location and facilities create a special atmosphere conducive to learning, scholarship, research, service, and personal growth.
