Overview

A public-funded University, the University of Newcastle was established in 1965. It’s known for its cutting-edge research and innovative teaching. It ranks among the top three per cent of Universities in the world, according to the QS University World Rankings and the Times Higher Education ranking. It is home to two leading research institutes – The Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources and the Hunter Medical Research Institute. Both institutes demonstrate their understanding of community needs and have struck successful partnerships with industry, business and community leaders. Location & Facilities

The University of Newcastle’s primary campus is located at Callaghan, a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales. The University also operates from campuses in Ourimbah, Port Macquarie, Singapore and the central business districts of Newcastle and Sydney. The University’s undergraduate education is well-regarded for its academic integrity, excellence in teaching and research, as well as curriculum that comes with an international-focus and is flexible. Intake

The academic year at the University, for the majority of undergraduate programs, is divided into two 14-week semesters with a 5-week break between each. For some postgraduate programs, the University operates a trimester system, details of which are listed below. An enrolment and orientation program for international students is held before the commencement of each semester or trimester.
